2. Cindy Sherman.
3. Richard Prince.
4. Audrey Flack.
5. Alex Katz.
6. Andy Warhol.
7. Wayne Thiebaud.
8. Edward Hopper.
These artists are all figures which have influenced my work in some way. Yvonne Todd's photographs are ones that I have looked at extensively over my years at Massey University. I am particularly interested in her depictions of women, as they show elements of the grotesque. Cindy Sherman has probably had the biggest impact on my work, through her Untitled Film Stills. The use of the 'film still' is evident throughout my works alongside a 'film noir' aesthetic. I enjoy Richard Prince for his appropriation of popular media texts, seen in Spiritual America. Alex Katz is a painter who I adore for his use of the female and the idea of a 'fashionable female', an artist which captures the urban landscape. Katz often talks about the world of Fashion and it's influence on his work, directly referencing ads. Wayne Thiebaud and Edward Hopper are two painters who's work I thoroughly enjoy purely for aesthetic reasons, the thick oil paint applied in layers to describe a cake.
